A woman is in custody following a fatal shooting early Sunday in Philadelphia’s Holmesburg neighborhood, police said. The incident, a suspected domestic shooting, occurred on the 4400 block of Cottman Avenue.
Philadelphia police officers responded to a report of a shooting at approximately 12:15 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered a man dead from a gunshot wound.
According to police, the woman in custody claimed the 38-year-old victim, her husband, forced his way into the residence after returning home following a week-long absence. She alleged he kicked in both the front and back doors.
The woman told officers that her husband threatened her after entering the home. She then retrieved a handgun and shot him once in the upper right shoulder, police said.
The man was pronounced dead at 12:36 a.m.
