Israel Prepares for Escalation with Hezbollah Amid Rising Tensions
Israel’s Northern Command is ready for any mission, indicating a possible escalation with Hezbollah, following a series of attacks on Tuesday that killed 12 people and wounded nearly 2,800 in Lebanon.
Change the Security Reality as Soon as Possible
Uri Gordin, the commander of the Israeli army’s Northern Command, stated that Israel is determined to change the security reality as soon as possible, amid fears of heightened tensions in the region.
Gordin’s statement came hours after a meeting with Air Force Commander Tomar Barr, during which they discussed operational plans for the North and the process of increasing combat readiness in Lebanon.
Hezbollah’s Response and the Human Toll
Hezbollah confirmed that it would continue its military operations against Israel in support of the Gaza Strip and responded to Tuesday’s simultaneous bombing of communications devices carried by its members in various areas of Lebanon.
According to Lebanese Health Minister Firas al-Abiad, the bombings killed 12 people, including two children, and injured about 2,800 people, including hundreds of Hezbollah members, with about 300 injured in serious condition.
Israel’s Military Preparations
Amid fears of an extension of the war with Hezbollah on the Lebanese-Israeli border, Israel has moved one of its combat teams from the Gaza Strip to the northern border.
The 98th Combat Division, consisting of approximately 10,000 to 20,000 Israeli troops, was transferred to join paratroopers and commando divisions, as well as the 36th Division under Israel’s Northern Command.
The move comes amid fears of a wider conflict against Hezbollah following a series of attacks on Tuesday, and as Israel faces intense internal pressure after tens of thousands were displaced from the north due to rising tensions with Lebanon.
