Spring 2026 Campaign Progress
The spring season began on March 23, 2026, when the Norwich University men’s rugby team traveled to Kingston, Ontario. The team earned its first victory of the spring 7s campaign at the Royal Military College tournament.

Following the opening victory in Ontario, the Cadets hosted eight teams from the New England and tri-state regions for the Chris Munn 7s in Northfield, Vt., on April 6, 2026.
During the Chris Munn 7s, Norwich remained unbeaten throughout the pool play stage. The team eventually finished the tournament in second place, mirroring their runner-up finish at the subsequent Milley 7s event.
Program Legacy and Leadership
The men’s rugby program is led by veteran head coach Bob Weggler. Weggler’s coaching approach integrates strategy, physicality, and discipline to develop student-athletes and high-performing teams.
Under this leadership, the Cadets have established themselves as a premier rugby program in the East and a consistent national contender. The program’s history includes multiple appearances in the national Final Four and the production of numerous All-Americans.
The team’s track record of success includes a consistent presence at the highest levels of collegiate competition. In April 2025, the team captured the North Atlantic Collegiate Rugby Conference (NACRC) 7s Championship, which secured their seventh consecutive trip to the Collegiate Rugby Championship (CRC) National Tournament.
Norwich University rugby utilizes two distinct home venues for its matches. The team plays on the turf surface of Sabine Field, which features stadium seating, and the historic Graveyard Pitch.
The program continues to maintain its reputation for national ambition, with athletes from the team having been enshrined in the Norwich Athletic Hall of Fame.
