NotebookLM Mobile: Infographic & Slide Deck Customization Now Available

by Lisa Park - Tech Editor

Google is expanding the capabilities of its NotebookLM mobile application, bringing slide deck and infographic customization options to Android and iOS users. The update, which began rolling out last week, aims to match the feature set available on the web version of NotebookLM, allowing for greater creative control directly from mobile devices.

Previously, the mobile apps defaulted to pre-set designs when generating visual content. Now, users will find new pencil icons within the “Studio” tab next to the “Infographic” and “Slide Deck” options, signaling the availability of customization tools. This move reflects Google’s ongoing effort to provide a consistent and powerful experience across all platforms.

Infographic Customization Options

The infographic customization features offer users control over several key elements. Users can now specify the orientation of the infographic, choosing between landscape, portrait, or square layouts. Users can influence the infographic’s design by specifying the sources used, adjusting the prompt guiding the content creation, and selecting the desired language for the text.

Slide Deck Customization: Formats and Features

The slide deck customization options are more extensive, offering control over both the format and content of presentations. Users can select from two primary formats:

  • Detailed Deck: Designed for comprehensive information delivery, these decks include full text and detailed explanations, making them suitable for emailing or independent review.
  • Presenter Slides: These decks prioritize visual clarity and concise talking points, intended to support a speaker during a presentation.

Beyond format, users can also customize the language of the slide deck, and control the length of the presentation. The length options include “Short,” “Default,” and “Long,” with the “Long” option specifically available to subscribers of Google AI Ultra. As with infographics, users can also specify the sources and prompt to guide the slide deck’s creation.

The rollout of these features is currently in progress, with wider availability reported as of . Users who don’t immediately see the new icons are advised to force stop and restart the app to ensure the update is applied.

Mobile Studio Limitations and Future Development

While the mobile Studio tab has been significantly enhanced, it’s not yet a complete mirror of its web-based counterpart. Currently, the mobile Studio lacks support for “Mind Map,” “Reports,” and “Data Table” features. Customization options for “Video Overviews,” which were recently added to the mobile app, are not yet available. However, Google has indicated that customization for “Video Overviews” is planned for a future update.

This update to NotebookLM’s mobile app underscores Google’s commitment to providing a versatile AI-powered research and writing tool accessible across multiple devices. By bringing customization options to mobile, Google empowers users to create polished visual content on the go, adapting to a wider range of use cases, and preferences. The continued development of the mobile Studio, with planned additions like Video Overview customization and the inclusion of missing features, suggests that Google intends to make the mobile app a truly comprehensive alternative to the web version.

The ability to tailor infographics and slide decks directly within the NotebookLM app represents a significant step forward in mobile productivity. Users can now quickly transform research and notes into visually engaging presentations and summaries, without needing to rely on separate design tools. This streamlined workflow is particularly valuable for professionals, students, and anyone who frequently creates and shares visual content.
