A Fractured Relationship
Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espírito Santo is facing an uncertain future as a reported breakdown in his relationship with owner Evangelos Marinakis casts a shadow over the club. Sources indicate that despite securing European qualification last season and a promising opening-day victory against Brentford on Sunday, Nuno’s position is not entirely secure.
The tension has reportedly extended beyond the managerial office, with players now aware of the strained dynamic between Nuno and Marinakis. Nuno himself publicly acknowledged the shift in their working relationship during a press conference on Friday, stating that they are “not as close” as they were during the previous campaign.
“I always had a very good relationship with the owner – last season we were very close and spoke on a daily basis,” Nuno explained.”This season it is not so well, but I always believe that dialog is important because my concern is the squad and the season we have ahead of us. Our relationship has changed and we are not as close.” He further emphasized the importance of unity, stating, “Everybody at the club should be together, but that is not the reality.”
Transfer concerns and Squad Uncertainty
Adding to the unease,Nuno voiced concerns regarding the club’s transfer activity prior to the 3-1 win over Brentford. He expressed doubts about the composition of the squad and the timing of new arrivals, stating, “We have doubts, who is going to be [here]? When are they [new signings] going to come? All these things create doubts.”
These concerns weren’t isolated to Nuno; he noted that they were shared throughout the club. While Nottingham Forest has brought in seven new players this summer, they also saw winger Anthony elanga depart for Newcastle United in a deal worth £55 million.Nuno lamented a “lost chance” to solidify the squad before the demands of European competition intensify.
Reports suggest Nuno may not have been fully consulted on the club’s recruitment strategy, potentially contributing to the deteriorating relationship with Marinakis.
