Nourishing Love from Afar: Hyundai Green Food Introduces Senior Care Food to Bring Warmth to Parents’ Homes
Hyundai Green Food is introducing a care food diet targeting people in their 70s and older.
This is because the elderly population (age 65 or older) is increasing, and a culture of ‘untact filial piety’ has become established in the post-corona era, with children taking care of the meals of their parents who live far away.
Hyundai Green Food, a general food company affiliated with Hyundai Department Store Group, announced on the 26th that it will introduce ‘Greeting Wells’, a care food diet developed through empirical research targeting nursing facilities and joint research with government agencies and large hospitals.
Greeting Wells, which was launched this time, is an upgrade to ‘Soft Protein’, a meat-centered soft side dish product launched in 2022, by adding soup and vegetables to enable a balanced meal. Customers can directly order finished convenience food products and receive regular delivery. It consists of B2C use (42 types), which is received by method, and B2B use (112 types), which are supplied in half-cooked form to nursing facilities, etc.
Greeting Wells for B2C’s representative menu items include ‘Steamed Monkfish and Parsley Set’, ‘Grilled Mackerel Teriyaki Set’, ‘Szechuan Style Zucchini Beef Bulgogi Set’, and ‘Flounder Seaweed Soup’. You can purchase 9 or 12 meals per week through regular delivery at Greeting Mall, the official online mall, and short-term orders of one week are also possible. If you order before 7 p.m., it will be delivered the next day nationwide (excluding mountainous islands and some areas). The selling price is in the 6,000-7,000 won range, which is about 40% cheaper than the existing Greeting protein diet and low-sugar diet.
In the case of B2B products (112 types) for delivery to hospitals and nursing facilities equipped with large cooking facilities, you can easily complete a senior menu by simply heating the semi-cooked food ingredients packaged in large quantities at a group catering facility.
Since launching Korea’s first care food brand Greeting in 2020, Hyundai Green Food has been operating a variety of care foods, including protein, low-sugar, low-calorie diets and specialized diets for patients with diseases.
The reason Hyundai Green Food introduced Greeting Wells is because the proportion of the country’s elderly population and the number of elderly people living alone are increasing significantly. According to the ‘Future Population Estimate’ announced by Statistics Korea, the proportion of people in their 70s or older, which was 14.2% in 2020, rose to 16.3% last year and is expected to increase to 36.6% in 2040.
The proportion of people in their 70s or older among single-person households is also expected to increase rapidly from 18.2% (1.17 million households) in 2020 to 18.6% (1.43 million households) last year and 32.5% (3.21 million households) in 2040.
Hyundai Green Food plans to expand the number of Greeting Wells menus to about 300 by next year, more than double the existing number. Additionally, we plan to expand clinical research with Yonsei University Dental Hospital and introduce a liquid diet (food that can be swallowed without chewing) for patients with complete tooth extractions next year.
Joo-yeon Park, head of the Greeting Business Department at Hyundai Green Food, said, “Greeting Wells could be the optimal solution for the elderly, who often have poor quality and quantity meals due to weakened dental and digestive health,” and added, “We will design customized nutrition not only for the elderly, but also for the elderly.” “We will continue to develop specialized care foods for growing children and people with diseases who need food, and will establish ourselves as a company that has a positive impact on eating habits,” he said.
