Parramatta Eels captain Mitchell Moses is demonstrating meaningful growth as a leader, contributing to the team’s positive performance this season. His on-field play and evolving approach to team dynamics are key factors in the Eels’ ambitions.
Recent Performance and Impact
Moses delivered a standout performance against the Sydney Roosters, further solidifying his role as a pivotal player for the Eels. The Eels’ victory over the Brisbane Broncos last month temporarily hindered the Broncos’ pursuit of a top-four finish in the National Rugby League (NRL) competition.
Addressing On-Field Conduct and Learning from Incidents
Despite a highly publicized heated exchange with teammate Tallyn Da Silva during the win against the North Queensland Cowboys, Moses has reportedly shown increased composure off the field. He attributes this development to interactions with Panthers co-captain Isaah Yeo during representative matches.
“Being calmer is something I feel like I had to work on,as well as how I spoke to the group and how I addressed the group,” Moses stated, according to the Sydney Morning Herald. He acknowledges that emotional outbursts occur in the heat of competition but emphasizes they are not personal, and he is actively working on managing his reactions.
Moses reflected on lessons learned from the incident with Da Silva, stating, “Things will always happen in the heat of battle. Blow-ups happen, but it’s never personal, everyone knows that. I’m a fierce competitor and I let out [those emotions] the wrong way sometimes. I’m still learning that aspect, and I learned a lot of lessons out of that [da Silva blow-up] as well.”
growth Under Coach Jason Ryles
moses credits coach Jason Ryles with fostering his development as a captain since being appointed to the role. “I feel like I’ve grown since Rylsey [coach Jason Ryles] gave me the captaincy, and I guess I had to,” he said.
