CDS-PP leader Nuno Melo today linked Chega‘s positioning to socialism and compared André Ventura to Donald Trump, urging voters to cast their ballots “with conscience” in the presidential elections on February 8th.
Speaking at the closing of the CDS-PP’s local convention in Porto, Nuno Melo said he wanted to ”explain a little better” the party’s stance regarding the presidential runoff, recalling that Chega argues the February 8th vote will determine who is “on the side of socialism or on the side of those fighting socialism.”
“You aren’t on the right or left as you say you are on the right or left, and Chega actually defends tax increases and a state giving everything to everyone, which normally only happens with money that belongs to taxpayers – with a hand in the pocket of those who work. As far as I can tell, you can’t get more socialist than that,” Melo stated.
Reiterating the position communicated earlier in the week by the Executive Committee that the CDS-PP “will have no organic involvement, nor any institutional involvement” in the presidential runoff, nuno melo insisted the party won’t give “any formal support” to former PS Secretary-General António José Seguro or Chega leader André Ventura.
Though, he recalled the moment he took over the party presidency in 2023, when “one of the candidates today in the second round of the presidential elections [André Ventura]”…
