CDS-PP leader Nuno Melo today linked Chega‘s⁤ positioning to socialism and compared André Ventura to ⁣Donald Trump,‍ urging voters to cast their ballots “with conscience” in the presidential elections on February 8th.

Speaking at the closing ⁤of the ⁢CDS-PP’s⁢ local convention in Porto, Nuno‌ Melo said he wanted‍ to ‌”explain⁢ a little ⁢better” the party’s stance regarding the presidential runoff, recalling that Chega argues the February‍ 8th vote will‌ determine who is “on the side⁣ of socialism or ⁤on the side of those fighting socialism.”

“You aren’t on the right or ⁤left as you say you are on the right or left, and Chega actually defends tax increases and a ‌state giving everything to everyone, which⁤ normally ‌only ⁢happens with⁤ money⁤ that belongs to taxpayers – with a hand in ‌the ⁢pocket of those who work. As far as I ⁢can⁣ tell, you can’t get more socialist than that,” Melo stated.

Reiterating ⁤the position communicated earlier in the week by the Executive Committee that the CDS-PP “will have no organic involvement,⁢ nor any institutional involvement” in the presidential runoff, nuno‍ melo insisted the party won’t give “any formal support” to former PS Secretary-General António José Seguro or Chega leader André Ventura.

Though, he ‍recalled the moment he ⁤took over the party presidency in 2023, when “one of the candidates today in the second round⁤ of the presidential elections [André Ventura]”…
