NVIDIA Blueprint Accelerates Smart City AI Development
Updated June 12, 2025
With urban populations projected to double by 2050, cities are increasingly adopting digital twins and AI agents for lasting urban planning and data-driven decisions. NVIDIA has introduced the Omniverse Blueprint for smart city AI to address the complexities of building and testing these technologies.
The NVIDIA Omniverse Blueprint combines NVIDIA Omniverse, Cosmos, NeMo and Metropolis platforms to bring physical AI to urban infrastructure. Developers can use the blueprint to construct simulation-ready digital twins of cities, facilitating the creation and testing of AI agents that monitor and optimize city operations.
Companies including XXII, AVES Reality, Akila, Blyncsy, Bentley, Cesium, K2K, Linker Vision, Milestone Systems, Nebius, SNCF Gares&Connexions, Trimble and Younite AI are among the first to adopt the blueprint.
The blueprint provides a software stack to accelerate the development and testing of AI agents within accurate digital twins. The workflow involves creating a SimReady digital twin using aerial, satellite or map data with Omniverse and Cosmos. AI models are then trained and fine-tuned using NVIDIA TAO and Nemo Curator to improve accuracy for vision AI applications. real-time AI agents are deployed to process camera and sensor data using the Metropolis VSS blueprint.
SNCF Gares&Connexions, operating 3,000 train stations across France and monaco, uses a digital twin and AI agents for real-time monitoring, emergency simulations and infrastructure planning. This deployment, powered by Omniverse, Metropolis and solutions from Akila and XXII, has led to a 100% on-time preventive maintainance completion rate, a 50% reduction in downtime and a 20% reduction in energy consumption at the Monaco-Monte-Carlo and Marseille stations.
In Sicily, the city of Palermo is partnering with K2K, using AI agents and digital twins to enhance public health and safety. K2K’s AI agents, built with the NVIDIA AI Blueprint for VSS and cloud solutions from Nebius, process footage from over 1,000 public video streams, providing real-time alerts on public events. To improve traffic incident prediction, K2K generates synthetic data with Cosmos world foundation models and fine-tunes VLMs with NeMo Curator, enabling 100,000 predictions per second.
Milestone Systems, in collaboration with NVIDIA and European cities, launched Project Hafnia to create an anonymized video data platform for developing and training AI models while maintaining regulatory compliance. The project, using Cosmos and NeMo Curator on NVIDIA DGX Cloud and Nebius’ cloud infrastructure,is being rolled out in Genoa,Italy, featuring a VLM model for smart transportation systems.
Linker Vision partnered with NVIDIA to deploy smart city digital twins and AI agents for Kaohsiung City, Taiwan. Working with AVES Reality, Linker Vision brought aerial imagery into 3D geometry for SimReady Omniverse digital twins. The AI-powered application analyzes 50,000 video streams in real time, providing insights to city departments and reducing incident response times by up to 80%.
bentley Systems is integrating the NVIDIA blueprint into its reality capture workflows and Trimble Connect digital twin platform. Cesium provides the foundation for visualizing and managing infrastructure projects within Omniverse, while Blyncsy uses synthetic data generation and Metropolis to analyze road conditions. Younite AI is adopting the blueprint to accelerate its development pipeline for large-scale urban simulations.
What’s next
The NVIDIA Omniverse Blueprint for smart city AI is expected to foster further innovation in urban planning and management, enabling cities to leverage AI and digital twin technologies for improved efficiency, sustainability and safety.
