“NVIDIA Discusses $100 Million Investment in OpenAI”

(Los Angeles = Yonhap News) Correspondent Im Mina = Bloomberg News reported on the 1st (local time) that artificial intelligence (AI) chip manufacturer Nvidia is discussing participating as an investor in the additional funding of ChatGPT developer OpenAI.
Bloomberg, citing two sources, reported that Nvidia is in discussions to invest about $100 million (about 130 billion won) in OpenAI.
Earlier, the US daily Wall Street Journal (WSJ) also reported on the 29th that Nvidia and Apple were considering investing in OpenAI.

Bloomberg pointed out that if these discussions become reality, the three largest companies in the global technology industry, including Microsoft (MS), would all provide financial support to OpenAI.
Since 2019, Microsoft has invested $13 billion in OpenAI and owns a 49% stake.
Nvidia is supplying OpenAI with a large quantity of AI chips it manufactures, and Apple partnered with OpenAI in June to add AI functions to its latest smartphone, the iPhone 16, which will be released next month.
OpenAI’s latest funding round is being led by the famous American venture capital firm Thrive Capital, and is said to value OpenAI’s corporate value at over $100 billion (approximately KRW 133.9 trillion).
Nvidia, Apple, Microsoft, OpenAI, and Thrive Capital all declined to comment on the matter.
