NVIDIA and Microsoft are deepening their collaboration to accelerate agentic AI, which is poised to redefine scientific discovery and spur research breakthroughs across various sectors. The partnership aims to deliver advancements that power agentic AI applications from cloud platforms to personal computers.
Microsoft recently introduced Microsoft discovery, a platform designed to empower researchers by transforming the discovery process using agentic AI. This extensible platform promises to expedite the time-to-market for new products and enhance the end-to-end discovery process for scientists in research and development departments.
Microsoft Discovery will incorporate the NVIDIA ALCHEMI NIM microservice, optimizing AI inference for chemical simulations to accelerate materials science research through property prediction and candidate advice. It will also integrate NVIDIA BioNeMo NIM microservices, leveraging pre-trained AI workflows to speed up AI model development for drug discovery. These integrations provide researchers with accelerated performance for quicker scientific breakthroughs.
During testing, Microsoft researchers utilized Microsoft Discovery to identify a novel coolant prototype with promising properties for data center immersion cooling in under 200 hours, a process that typically takes months or years using traditional methods.
Microsoft is rapidly deploying hundreds of thousands of NVIDIA blackwell GPUs using NVIDIA GB200 NVL72 rack-scale systems across its AI-optimized Azure data centers globally. This move is expected to considerably boost performance and efficiency. OpenAI is already utilizing this infrastructure for production workloads.
Azure’s ND GB200 v6 virtual machines, built on this rack-scale architecture with up to 72 NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs per rack and advanced liquid cooling, are projected to deliver up to 35 times more inference throughput compared to previous ND H100 v5 VMs accelerated by eight NVIDIA H100 GPUs.
microsoft chairman and CEO Satya Nadella and NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang emphasized that the collaboration between Microsoft and NVIDIA is compounding performance gains through continuous software optimizations across all NVIDIA architectures on Azure. This approach enhances developer productivity, reduces total cost of ownership, and accelerates all workloads, including AI and data processing.
Building on the NIM integration in Azure AI Foundry, Microsoft and NVIDIA are expanding the platform with the NVIDIA Nemotron family of open reasoning models and NVIDIA BioNeMo NIM microservices. These additions deliver enterprise-grade,containerized inferencing for complex decision-making and domain-specific AI workloads.
Developers can now access optimized NIM microservices for advanced reasoning in Azure AI Foundry, including the NVIDIA Llama Nemotron Super and Nano models. These models offer advanced multistep reasoning, coding, and agentic capabilities, delivering up to 20% higher accuracy and five times faster inference than previous models.
Healthcare-focused BioNeMo NIM microservices, such as ProteinMPNN, Rfdiffusion, and OpenFold2, address critical applications in digital biology, drug discovery, and medical imaging. These tools enable researchers and clinicians to accelerate protein science, molecular modeling, and genomic analysis for improved patient care and faster scientific innovation.
NVIDIA TensorRT has been reimagined for RTX AI PCs, combining industry-leading TensorRT performance with just-in-time, on-device engine building and a smaller package size for seamless AI deployment to RTX AI PCs. TensorRT for RTX is natively supported by Windows ML,providing app developers with broad hardware compatibility and performance.
