the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) is continuing its period of growth, with Boston and Denver officially slated to join the league in 2026, bringing the total number of teams to 16, a significant increase from the 10 teams in 2021. Both franchises are actively developing stadium plans to support their entry into the league.
Denver – Summit FC
Denver’s team, Summit FC, has already secured over 15,000 season-ticket deposits, demonstrating strong local interest. the team is currently constructing a temporary stadium for the 2026 season, with plans for a permanent 14,500-seat venue to be completed by 2028. This permanent stadium will be only the second built specifically for an NWSL team, following CPKC Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, which opened in 2024 for the Kansas City Current Kansas City Current Stadium.
Boston
Boston will initially play its home matches at Gillette Stadium, shared with the Major League Soccer (MLS) team, the New England Revolution new England Revolution. However,the long-term plan involves relocating to a renovated White Stadium in Boston’s Franklin Park in 2027.
The renovation of White Stadium is a collaborative effort between the team and the City of Boston. Boston Public Schools will be the primary tenant of the 10,000-plus-seat venue. The project has faced delays due to local opposition, pushing the completion date beyond the originally anticipated spring 2026.
