A Response to Unmet Needs: The Birth of the NYC Black Pride Collective
For too long, the unique needs and contributions of black queer New Yorkers have been overlooked within broader Pride celebrations.Recognizing this gap,a collective of influential nightlife curators, community organizers, and wellness leaders came together earlier this year to form the NYC Black Pride collective. Their mission: to create a dedicated space for Black LGBTQ+ joy, wellness, and advocacy.
“In a time when our community faces unprecedented attacks and disinvestment, we’re coming together to heal, dance, and support each other through community-built joy and celebration,” explains Micah Marquez, co-lead of the Collective and founder of Deviant and Counter Culture.
The Collective represents a powerful synergy of established forces within the city’s queer scene, including:
Recess: A social community fostering connection for queer and trans people of color.
Counter Culture: A party series prioritizing creativity and authentic connection.
trappy Hour: Known for its energetic, Harlem-based dance parties.
Raw Honey: A nightlife experience uplifting femme-forward expression.
Deviant: A rave-inspired space championing Black queer freedom.
Out N Bad: Dedicated to centering queer Caribbean experiences.
Joe Morris Events: A nightlife brand focused on inclusive and elevated celebrations.
A Five-Day Itinerary of Celebration and Solidarity
The inaugural NYC Black Pride event is packed with diverse offerings designed to uplift and empower. Attendees can look forward to:
beach Day: A relaxing and rejuvenating day of sun, sand, and community.

* dance Parties: High-energy events showcasing the city’s vibrant nightlife scene and providing a space for uninhibited expression.
Beyond the festivities, the Collective is committed to tangible impact. Proceeds from the events will directly benefit the Celebration of Black Trans Women Cookout, a vital initiative focused on love, joy, and mutual aid for Black trans women - a community facing disproportionate levels of violence and marginalization.
“Black trans women are at the heart of our history and our future,” emphasizes Gia love, leader of the cookout. “This weekend is about celebration – and it’s about solidarity.”
A Love Letter to New York City and the Black Queer Community
The NYC Black Pride Collective envisions this event as more than just a series of parties and gatherings. It’s a declaration of resilience, a testament to the power of community, and a bold statement of self-love.
“This is a love letter to the city, and to each other,” says co-lead Josh Gordon of Recess.
Whether your drawn to the energy of the dance floor, the serenity of a wellness practice, or the simple joy of connecting with others, the NYC Black Pride Collective extends a warm invitation to come as you are and celebrate the beauty and strength of the Black queer community.
