In the 2024-2025 school year, every kindergarten, first, second, and third grade student attending a New York City public school (including participating charter schools) will be eligible to participate, regardless of family income or immigration status.
In geographic District 30, every student in kindergarten through fifth grade in the 39 pilot schools is eligible to participate.
If my child qualifies, what are the next steps?
If your child qualifies, they will Automatic Registration Join the College Savings Plan and receive a free NYC Scholarship Account unless you choose not to participate and withdraw. As long as you take no action during the withdrawal process, your child will be automatically enrolled.
If you decide you do not want to participate, you can contact your child’s school at any time to learn how to opt out of the program or cancel your participation. The opt-out process will be on a rolling basis starting in the fall.
When can I activate my child’s NYC Scholarship account?
If your child recently started kindergarten, first grade, second grade, or third grade in a New York City public school (or a participating charter school), firstyou will be able to activate and view your child’s NYC Scholarship account in January 2025. Your school and NYC Kids RISE will notify you when your child’s account is ready for activation.
If your child is currently in first, second, or third grade; they attended a New York City public school (or a participating charter school) last year; and you have not opted out of the program, you can activate and view your child’s New York City Scholarship account!
Once you activate your child’s NYC Scholarship account, you can complete additional blocks to earn additional rewards.
