Updated May 30, 2025
The tri-state area is bracing for a bout of wet weather this weekend, with steady rain and potential downpours increasing the risk of severe weather. the approaching storm line is expected to arrive after dinnertime Friday, with the most intense storms hitting after midnight and clearing out after sunrise Saturday.

The storms could bring damaging wind gusts, hail, and even isolated tornadoes. The primary concern, though, is the potential for flooding, with rainfall rates possibly reaching 1 to 2 inches per hour during the heaviest downpours. A tornado watch has been issued for Monmouth and Ocean counties in New Jersey until midnight Friday.
Rainfall totals are expected to reach between 1 and 3 inches across the region by Saturday morning. This amount of rain in a relatively short period could cause rivers and creeks to overflow, leading to minor to moderate flooding.A flood watch is in effect for northern and central New Jersey, as well as the lower Hudson valley.

While the greatest flood concern is concentrated just west of New York City, most of the region, excluding the eastern end of Long Island, faces the risk of localized, minor flooding. The southern-most counties face the greatest risk of severe weather.
