Far Rockaway Teen’s Prom Dreams fulfilled by NYPD
Ruthann watson, a high school senior from Far Rockaway, experienced a memorable prom night, complete with a prom queen crown, thanks to the New York Police Department. Overcoming important hardship, Watson received support from NYPD officers who ensured she wouldn’t miss out on the special occasion. The NYPD provided a police escort and a ride in an Audi R8 to make her prom dreams a reality.
Two years ago, Watson’s family suffered a tragedy when a cousin killed her older sister, niece, nephew, and brother-in-law. Watson, who made the 911 call, has since worked to overcome the trauma and developed a strong bond with the NYPD.
NYPD Youth Officers brittany brown and Tequalynn Vessel spearheaded the effort to give Watson a memorable prom.When watson mentioned she couldn’t afford to attend, the officers stepped in to help. Their captain fully supported their initiative.
Officer Vessel emphasized the importance of showing Watson support and love after everything she had been through, ensuring she knows the tragedy does not define her. The officers arranged for Watson to have a perfect dress, shoes, and professional hair and nail services.
“I wasn’t going to come to prom, untill these officers helped me. So honestly thank you so much,” Watson said.
“She hasn’t stopped smiling yet. Makes us smile. We did shed a few tears,I won’t lie we’re in awe,” said Officer Brown.
“I feel so special. And honestly I’m so grateful, I couldn’t have asked for anything better,” Watson said.
