After the Tisza Party’s nomination of László Gajdos, the director of the Nyíregyházi Zoo, in the 1st electoral district of Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county caused tension on the government side last week, the 21 Research Center conducted a telephone survey of 800 people representative of the electoral district on behalf of the Tisza Party, writes Hvg.
The survey aimed to gauge voter familiarity and popularity of local politicians. The results indicate significant sympathy and support for László Gajdos. He is the best-known and most popular politician among the candidates, surpassing former Fidesz candidate Tünde Szabó and current government party candidates András Polgári. Approximately two-thirds of Nyíregyháza residents like him, while only 11 percent dislike him, and 16 percent are unfamiliar with him.
Survey Results: Detailed Breakdown of Voter Preference
The research revealed the following voting preferences among respondents who expressed a candidate choice:
- 64 percent would vote for László Gajdos,
- 25 percent for András Polgári
- 6 percent for Our Country,
- and 2 percent for the candidate of the Democratic Coalition.
Among those who are certain to vote and have a candidate preference:
- 67 percent would vote for Gajdos
- 25 percent for Citizens
- 4 percent for the Mi Házánk candidate.
Tünde Szabó enjoys similar name recognition but is more polarizing: 27 percent like her, while 38 percent dislike her. András Polgári, who heads the government office, remains relatively unknown, with only 23 percent of respondents expressing an opinion about him. Among non-Fidesz voters, the two politicians from the ruling party garnered support from only a few percent, but Gajdos is liked by 27 percent of ruling party voters, according to the report.
The disapproval rate of Gajdos among government supporters is also considered low, at 36 percent.
