The Oakland Roots have named Benny feilhaber, a former U.S. national team midfielder, as their new coach.The USL Championship team made the announcement Monday.
Feilhaber steps in following the dismissal of Gavin Glinton, which occurred earlier the same day. Glinton’s departure came after the team posted three wins, seven losses, and one draw in league play. The Roots also suffered an early exit from the U.S. Open Cup, losing their first match to Tacoma in the third round.
Feilhaber, 40, brings a wealth of experience to the Oakland Roots. He earned 44 caps for the U.S. national team between 2007 and 2017,scoring two goals. He also represented the U.S.at the 2010 World Cup, making three substitute appearances.
A memorable moment in his international career came in the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup final, where his 73rd-minute volley secured a 2-1 victory for the U.S. over mexico.
