The incident occurred during the town’s celebration of the Virgin of Soledad. According to local reports,a woman and her child were involved in an accident with a motorcycle taxi. Pérez Delgado, who was attending the festivities, arrived at the scene and attempted to assist the injured parties.
A verbal altercation ensued between the mayor and the woman, who was dressed in traditional Istmo de Oaxaca clothing. The video, captured by bystanders, shows Pérez Delgado pulling the woman’s hair and striking her with his fist. He can also be seen attempting to take her cell phone.
The woman, visibly upset, confronted the mayor, leading to a physical struggle. Witnesses intervened to separate the two.
The Oaxaca State Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation into the assault. The case has been assigned to the specialized unit handling crimes against women.
Oaxaca Governor Salomón Jara Cruz condemned the violence against the woman and publicly called for Pérez Delgado’s resignation, urging him to take full responsibility for his actions.
