The study identified 94 metabolic pathways that differed between the two weight groups, impacting carbohydrate metabolism, amino acid processing, and the production of signaling molecules. Further analysis, combining data on oral microbial activity with clinical blood markers, revealed strong correlations between specific microbial pathways and indicators of metabolic risk, such as triglyceride levels, liver function, and cardiovascular health.
