Get ready for more “Ma.” Octavia Spencer is returning to her iconic role in a sequel to the 2019 revenge thriller. Blumhouse Productions unveiled the “Ma” sequel at its Business of Horror event in Hollywood. The project, still in its early stages, currently has no director or release date.
The original “ma” followed a group of teenagers who befriend Sue Ann Ellington (Spencer), a lonely veterinarian who allows them to party in her basement. Though, things turn deadly as their relationship sours. The film, which reunited Spencer with Tate Taylor, director of “The Help,” grossed $61 million worldwide after its May 2019 release.
The film has since gained a cult following, inspiring memes and parodies. Spencer herself engaged with fans, even hosting a “best Ma meme” contest in 2020.
