October Sizzles, November Chills: Unpredictable Weather Patterns Bring Early Winter to December
South Korea’s Unusual Weather Pattern: Early Winter Chill Expected
Following a record-breaking September heatwave, concerns are growing that winter’s cold may arrive earlier than expected in South Korea. The Korea Meteorological Administration recently released its three-month weather outlook from October to December, providing insights into the country’s unusual weather pattern.
According to the outlook, October is expected to be hotter than usual, while November is expected to be similar to previous years. However, December is expected to be colder than usual, with temperatures potentially dropping significantly in early winter as the cold continental high pressure expands.
The weather has been so unusual lately that many are worried about the weather for the rest of fall and early winter. The Korea Meteorological Administration attributes the unusual weather pattern to the influence of a mobile high-pressure system, which is expected to bring abnormally high temperatures in the top 10% of the average year.
From November, the weather will return to somewhat chilly autumn, similar to previous years, and from mid-November, cold air will temporarily move south, bringing an early cold spell. In December, temperatures are expected to be similar to or lower than average, with early winter starting somewhat colder than usual.
The Korea Meteorological Administration has urged people to be thoroughly prepared for health management due to rapid temperature changes and unusual weather. The administration also notes that there is a high possibility of transitioning to La Niña conditions in the fall, which could lead to temperature volatility due to factors such as sea surface temperature and Arctic sea ice.
Residents, especially those in the west coast region, are advised to prepare for heavy snow in the early winter cold. While the early winter chill is expected, it’s essential to note that this doesn’t necessarily mean the entire winter will be cold.
