Russian Missile Strike on Odesa Port Kills Eight, Injures Dozens
Odesa Port Under Attack
on the night of December 19, 2023, Russia launched a missile attack targeting port infrastructure in the Odesa region of southern Ukraine, resulting in at least eight fatalities and 27 injuries, according to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service.
The State Emergency Service reported that some of the casualties occurred among individuals traveling on a bus near the impact zone. The attack ignited a fire among parked cargo trucks within the port area, as stated by Oleg Kiper, the regional governor of Odesa.
Ballistic Missile Strike and Aftermath
Ukrainian Air Force issued a warning around 9:00 PM local time on December 19th regarding an incoming threat from Russian ballistic missiles. explosions were afterward reported in the Odesa region shortly thereafter. The State Service confirmed that all fires resulting from the attack have been extinguished.
Damage extended to nearby vehicles. The incident underscores the continued vulnerability of Ukraine’s critical infrastructure to Russian military action.
