Willoughby Hills Bridge Closure Looms as major Rehab Project Set for 2025
Willoughby Hills, Ohio – Drivers who regularly use the Chardon Road bridge over the Chagrin River will need to find alternate routes in 2025. The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) has announced plans to rehabilitate the aging bridge, a project that will require a full closure for several months.
Tentatively scheduled to begin in March 2025, the project is expected to last through October, according to City Engineer Pietro DiFranco. While the bridge will be completely closed to traffic during this period, ODOT will implement detours to minimize disruption for commuters.
“We understand this closure will cause some inconvenience, but the rehabilitation is essential to ensure the long-term safety and functionality of this important bridge,” DiFranco saeid. “ODOT is committed to completing the project as efficiently as possible and will keep the community informed of any updates or changes to the schedule.”
Transportation Director Steve Johnson emphasized the need for the project. “This bridge is a vital link for our community, and this rehab will extend its lifespan for years to come,” Johnson said. “We appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation during the construction period.”
