From Weekly Drops too a Full season
Peacock has shifted its release strategy for the highly anticipated The Paper, a new comedy series set in the same universe as The Office. Originally planned for a four-week rollout beginning September 4, with two episodes released each week, the entire 10-episode season will now be available for streaming all at once on that date. This change, according to reports, comes after positive feedback from preview screenings.
A New Documentary Crew, A Familiar Feel
The Paper follows a documentary crew as they turn their cameras toward a struggling local newspaper, the Toledo Truth-Teller. The series promises the same mockumentary style and workplace humor that made The Office a cultural phenomenon. Domhnall Gleeson stars as Ned Sampson, the newly appointed editor attempting to revitalize the paper.
The ensemble cast also includes Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Alex Edelman, Ramona Young, Tim Key, and a welcome return from Oscar Nuñez, reprising his role from The Office. Guest stars include Duane shepard sr., Allan Havey, Nate Jackson, Mo Welch, Nancy Lenehan, Molly Ephraim, and Tracy Letts. Notably, several cast members – Ikumelo, Edelman, Rahill, and Welch – also contribute as writers on the series.
Why the Binge Release?
The decision to release all episodes concurrently is a strategic one. Peacock aims to capitalize on early buzz and offer viewers the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the series. Releasing the full season before the customary fall television season heats up will also help The Paper stand out in an increasingly crowded landscape. The move reflects a growing trend in streaming, catering to audiences who prefer to binge-watch content.
The Creative Team Behind the Scenes
The Paper is co-created by Greg Daniels, the mastermind behind the American adaptation of The Office, and Michael Koman. Daniels and Koman also serve as executive producers, alongside The Office originators Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant.Howard Klein, Ben Silverman, and Banijay Americas round out the executive producer roster, bringing a wealth of experience to the project.
