Ogden Police Seek Gun Discarded by Las Vegas Homicide Suspect
OGDEN — The Ogden City Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating a handgun believed to have been discarded by a man arrested in connection with a double homicide in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Ziaire Jacob Ham, 22, was taken into custody in Roy, Utah, on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, following an alert from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department regarding a stolen vehicle. According to a press release from the Ogden City Police Department, officers attempted a traffic stop after receiving an Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) alert, but the vehicle fled. With assistance from neighboring agencies, the vehicle was later found in Roy, and Ham was arrested without further incident.
Ham is currently being held in the Weber County Jail on charges of receiving or transferring a stolen vehicle, a second-degree felony; failure to respond to an officer’s signal to stop, a third-degree felony; and reckless driving, a class B misdemeanor.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is investigating Ham’s connection to a double homicide involving a woman and a toddler that occurred in Las Vegas. Detectives from both departments are collaborating on the ongoing investigation, according to the release.
Authorities are particularly concerned with recovering a handgun they believe Ham discarded during his flight from Ogden City police. The potential search area spans from 30th Street and Wall Avenue in Ogden to 5800 South and 3100 West in Roy.
“For the safety of the public, the Ogden Police Department and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department are requesting assistance in locating a handgun believed to have been discarded by the suspect,” the release stated. Ogden Police detectives are actively searching the area with the help of K9 units trained in firearm detection.
The public is urged not to handle any potential firearm they may find but to contact law enforcement immediately. Authorities are also requesting that residents with home surveillance cameras in the specified area review footage for any sightings of Ham or the vehicle, a black SUV with Arizona license plate CBW7733.
Ham is described as a 22-year-old male, approximately 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighing 188 pounds. He was last seen wearing a red shirt, sky blue graphic sweatpants, and possibly a black hoodie with graphics.
Residents in the area are encouraged to be vigilant and check their surroundings for any suspicious activity. Anyone with information regarding the case is asked to contact Weber Area Dispatch at 801-395-8221 and reference case number 26G17927.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department confirmed the arrest of Ham in a press release issued two days ago, stating that Sheriff Kevin McMahill is overseeing the investigation.
