Grand Forks, ND – The Orchestra of Indigenous Instruments and New Technologies (OIANT) is scheduled to perform at the North Dakota Museum of Art (NDMOA) on Sunday, May 3, 2026, as part of the Myra Foundation Presents: Concerts in the Galleries series.
The ensemble, founded in Argentina in 2000 by Alejandro Iglesias Rossi, combines instruments from both the past and present, alongside ritual theater, masks, and dance. Members of OIANT are former students of Rossi, and the orchestra aims to blend the sounds of native instruments of the Americas with European instruments and modern digital technology.
According to the North Dakota Museum of Art, the concert series has been a tradition for over thirty years, utilizing the galleries’ acoustics for chamber music performances. The museum notes that the series began after discovering the galleries were “glorious for chamber music.”
OIANT’s musicians have constructed their instruments based on research into their histories, often using models recovered from archaeological sites. Their repertoire includes traditional folk music and new compositions designed to explore the sounds created by combining past and present technologies.
