Oil Company Boss Responds to Trump’s Venezuela Investment Request
Trump Seeks $100 Billion Investment in Venezuela, Faces Industry Skepticism
President Donald Trump requested at least $100 billion in investment from the oil and gas industry for Venezuela, a sum equivalent to approximately Rp. 1.68 quadrillion based on an exchange rate of Rp. 16,800 per US dollar as of January 11,2026. However, the proposal met with resistance during a White House meeting, with one industry executive stating Venezuela is currently “not worthy of investment,” according to the BBC.
Leaders from major U.S. oil companies present at the meeting acknowledged Venezuela’s significant energy reserves and the potential possibility they represent. They emphasized, though, that critically important reforms are necessary before the country becomes an attractive investment destination. No immediate, large-scale financial commitments were made.
