The OK Liga, Spain’s premier rink hockey league, heads into its 18th round of competition with a compelling mix of title contention and relegation battles unfolding. Several key matchups this weekend promise to significantly shape the championship race, as the league’s top teams jostle for position and those near the bottom fight to avoid the drop.

Saturday’s schedule features a particularly intriguing clash between league-leading Hockey Club Liceo and fourth-ranked Calafell La Menorquina at 7:30 p.m. Liceo arrives brimming with confidence after a recent victory over Barça, and will be looking to solidify their position at the summit. Calafell, however, will present a stern test, eager to close the gap on the leaders and demonstrate their own championship aspirations. This encounter is expected to be a high-stakes affair between two teams in excellent form.

Later on Saturday, at 8:30 p.m., Barça will host Reus Deportiu Brasilia in a classic Spanish hockey rivalry. Coming off a loss to Liceo, Barça will be under pressure to deliver a strong performance in front of their home fans. Reus, a consistently competitive side, will aim to disrupt Barça’s momentum and further establish themselves as contenders for the top spots.

Sunday’s action is headlined by a match between Igualada Rigat HC, currently second in the standings, and Innoaesthetics HC Sant Just, scheduled for 4:10 p.m. Igualada cannot afford a slip-up if they hope to maintain pressure on Liceo, making this a crucial game in their pursuit of the title. The match will be broadcast live on laXarxa+.

The weekend’s schedule also includes several other important contests. ADISS Hockey Rivas will face CE Noia Freixenet at 4:30 p.m. On Saturday, with CE Noia looking to strengthen their position in the upper half of the table against a Rivas side desperate for points to climb away from the relegation zone. AITEX PAS Alcoi and Pons Lleida will then meet at 7:30 p.m. In a mid-table battle with significant implications for both teams’ ambitions.

Further down the standings, SHUM Frit Ravich will take on CH Caldes Recam Làser at 8:00 p.m. In a vital match for survival. Cerdanyola CH and CP Voltregà Movento Stern will also face off in another interesting duel, adding to the weekend’s competitive landscape.

The OK Liga was founded in 1969, initially as an expansion of the Catalan Championship. It officially adopted the name OK Liga in 2003. The league operates with a round-robin format, consisting of 30 matchdays, with the team finishing atop the table crowned champion. Barcelona has historically dominated the league, securing 34 titles, with their most recent championship coming in the 2024-25 season. Currently, 16 teams compete in the top tier, with the bottom team facing relegation to the OK Liga Plata at the end of each season.

The league underwent changes in 2017, renaming the top tier to OK Liga Oro and the second tier to OK Liga Plata. Plans for a third tier, OK Liga Bronce, were considered but ultimately abandoned due to insufficient team interest, leaving the third tier at a regional level.

Fans can follow all the action live through the league’s official OTT platform, OK Liga TV. The upcoming matches promise a thrilling weekend of rink hockey, with significant implications for the league standings and the championship race. The intensity of the competition is heightened by the compressed nature of the top of the table and the fierce battle for survival at the bottom, ensuring a captivating spectacle for fans.
