Celebrations erupted in Oklahoma City after the OKC Thunder clinched the NBA Championship. However, the festivities were marred by a shooting a few blocks from the arena, near Scissortail Park.
A FOX 25 crew was preparing for a live broadcast when shots rang out. The incident occurred on the east side of Scissortail Park, according to the station.
One person was shot following a fight, according to an oklahoma City police Department spokesperson. The spokesperson added the incident “was unrelated to anything involving the game.”
The OCPD reported the shooting victim is expected to recover. “For the most part,” the spokesperson added, “it was a peaceful night.”
Social media videos appeared to support the police assessment, showing mostly well-behaved fans. Though, some fans launched fireworks throughout the city, and one individual was seen climbing a light pole outside the arena.
