A Marine Corps Corporal (21) from Camp Kinser, U.S. military, was arrested on the 22nd by the Okinawa Police Department on suspicion of violating the Road Traffic Act (driving under influence) for driving a passenger vehicle on Prefectural Route 20, also known as “Gate Street” in Kamiji, Okinawa City, while about three times the legal limit for alcohol intake.
The suspect reserved his plea, saying, “I would like to request a lawyer.” According to the police station, a police officer on patrol suspected that the suspect’s vehicle had run a red light at an intersection, so he stopped the suspect and conducted a breath test, which revealed that the suspect was driving under the influence of alcohol.
