Oktoberfest Celebrates German culture
The Royal Canadian Legion in Sault Ste. Marie hosted an Oktoberfest party this afternoon, drawing attendees eager to experience German traditions.Organizer Ron Palmer expressed his satisfaction with the event’s atmosphere, stating, “It’s an equal balance and it’s just a shame that peopel are trying to tear it apart and make it into something political.”
mark Fisher attended the event wearing a unique T-shirt designed to resemble a traditional German outfit, complete with a hairy chest. “I’m a huge fan of Oktoberfest. I love German traditions. It’s a lot of fun,” Fisher said, noting his multi-year attendance, including a trip to Kitchener-waterloo for the renowned Oktoberfest there. Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest is Canada’s largest Bavarian festival, attracting over 700,000 visitors annually.
Event coordinator Paige Hiscoe anticipates approximately 400 people will attend the celebration. Tickets are available for purchase at the door, and the party is scheduled to continue until 12:30 a.m.
Wolf Fest Supports alzheimer Society
Simultaneously, Wolf Fest is taking place at the Roberta Bondar Pavilion, organized by Northern Superior Brewing. The event runs from 3 to 11 p.m. and features live performances by Jupiter Marvelous, The luxury Tragically Hip Tribute Band, Silent 9 Band, and headliner The killer Hooks.
Unlike oktoberfest, Wolf Fest is not themed around German culture. Admission is granted via charitable donation to benefit the Alzheimer Society Sault Ste.Marie & Algoma District,a non-profit institution dedicated to providing support and advocacy for individuals and families affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.
