Olympique Lyonnais has rarely approached the 30 million euro mark for a single player outside of John Textor’s financial dealings, but an operation approaching that amount is what TMW estimates it would take to make Loïs Openda’s transfer permanent from Juventus. The Belgian striker arrived at OL during the summer transfer window on a paid loan worth €3.5 million, with Juventus covering part of his salary. Despite trailing behind early scoring expectations, Openda quickly established himself as a central pillar in Paulo Fonseca’s attack through his physical work rate and unselfish play. The club now hopes to retain the forward past his loan spell, though no purchase option was included in the agreement.
Juventus Valuates Openda at €30 Million Following €40 Million Initial Outlay
Juventus spent €40 million to bring Openda to Turin initially, meaning the Italian club expects a substantial return if they let him leave permanently. According to Italian sports outlet TMW, only an offer approaching €30 million will tempt Juventus directors, who believe other European suitors will pursue the striker next summer if he maintains his form. Lyon officials are considering a potential €27 million transfer proposal that includes the initial €3.5 million loan fee already paid, bringing the total outlay close to the valuation. Such a fee would make Openda the third most expensive acquisition in the club’s history, trailing the €32 million spent on Moussa Niakhaté and the €35 million committed across two installments for Orel Mangala to Nottingham Forest.

Michele Kang Balances Financial Constraints Against Summer Sales Shortfalls
Financial realities currently block Lyon from completing a permanent deal on those terms. Michele Kang has no intention of committing such a large sum right now, particularly because OL failed to hit all of their player-sales targets during the summer transfer window. Whether management alters its stance at the end of the season depends heavily on winter departures and a potential qualification for the UEFA Champions League.
