Indonesian StrikerS Naturalization Process Faces Delays
jakarta – The Indonesian Football association (PSSI) has shed light on the stalled naturalization process of promising striker Ole Romeny.Despite the FC Utrecht player’s arrival in Indonesia a month ago, his naturalization remains in limbo.
Romeny met with PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir on November 16th and even witnessed Indonesia’s national team face off against Japan on November 15th. However, nearly a month has passed since these events, and there have been no updates on the striker’s naturalization progress.
When questioned about the delay, PSSI assured the public that they are not rushing the process.
“Just wait patiently. The House of Representatives is currently in recess until January 20th, so we’ll just have to wait,” stated Arya Sinulingga, a member of PSSI’s Executive Committee.Sinulingga explained that the Indonesian national team, which is expected to benefit from Romeny’s skills, does not have any immediate fixtures. The team’s next challenge in the third round of the 2026 World cup qualifiers is scheduled for next year.
Indonesia will face Australia on March 20th and then host Bahrain on March 25th. This leaves over three months for Romeny’s naturalization to be finalized.
“Besides, our match against Australia is on March 20th. The deadline for player registration is March 13th (2024). We are definately working on it,” Sinulingga assured.
He further elaborated that several documents are still being prepared and have not yet been submitted to the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
