Olivia Rodrigo Debuts New Song Begged on Saturday Night Live

Olivia Rodrigo pulled double duty as both host and musical guest on the May 2, 2026, episode of Saturday Night Live, using the platform to debut a new ballad titled begged from her forthcoming third studio album.

The performance of begged featured a visual arrangement that mirrored the cover art of the upcoming record, with Rodrigo performing while seated on a swing. The track also included backing vocals from Natalie Mering, known professionally as Weyes Blood, marking Mering’s debut appearance on the show.

The second musical set was introduced by actor Connor Storrie, who has gained prominence for his role as Ilya Rozanov in the Crave original series Heated Rivalry. Storrie’s appearance served as an introduction to the song, which had previously been performed in Los Angeles but had not been captured on video until the SNL broadcast.

Departure from Tradition

The debut of begged is part of the promotional rollout for Rodrigo’s third studio album, titled you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, which is scheduled for release via Geffen Records on June 12, 2026.

The title represents a stylistic shift for the singer, breaking a longstanding pattern of single, four-letter, capitalized titles established by her previous albums, SOUR (2021) and GUTS (2023). The new title is stylized in all lowercase.

Rodrigo continues her partnership with producer Dan Nigro for this project. In a March 2026 interview with British Vogue, she described the upcoming tracks as sad love songs, explaining that her favorite romantic music often contains an undercurrent of fear or longing.

The album’s aesthetic has also shifted from the purple themes of her earlier eras to a light bubblegum pink. This color palette is reflected in the album cover, which depicts Rodrigo on a swing wearing a collared pink dress and platform Mary Jane pumps.

Hosting Debut and Sketches

Marking her first time hosting the series, Rodrigo opened the episode with a monologue that included a spoof of her debut single drivers license, reimagined as a song about the process of obtaining a REAL ID at the DMV.

Throughout the episode, Rodrigo appeared in several comedic segments. She starred in a sequel to a sketch previously featuring Sabrina Carpenter, portraying a baker demonstrating a sexually suggestive lava cake on a fictional shopping network.

Other sketches included a spoof of an 1980s television drama titled Edge Of Destiny, a scene featuring an Uber driver played by Andrew Dismukes, and a pre-taped commercial for a home security system called SafeGuard, where Rodrigo played an influencer creating TikToks with intruders.

In addition to begged, Rodrigo performed the lead single from the new album, drop dead, which was introduced by Blondie legend Debbie Harry. At the time of the performance, drop dead was the number one song in the United States.

Touring and Career Context

The SNL appearance follows the announcement of Rodrigo’s third concert tour, the Unraveled Tour, which was unveiled on April 30, 2026. The tour is scheduled to consist of 65 dates across North America and Europe.

The tour is set to begin on September 25, 2026, in Hartford and will conclude on May 2, 2027, in Barcelona. The supporting lineup for the tour includes Wolf Alice, The Last Dinner Party, Grace Ives, Die Spitz, and Devon Again.

Rodrigo’s transition into this new era follows the conclusion of the GUTS World Tour, which spanned 102 global arena shows. Her previous work has achieved significant commercial success, with SOUR certified 6x platinum and GUTS certified 3x platinum by the RIAA.
