Olivia Rodrigo Releases New Single Drop Dead

Olivia Rodrigo has released her new single “Drop Dead,” the lead track from her upcoming third studio album You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, on Friday, April 17, 2026.

The song marks Rodrigo’s first new music in years and serves as the introduction to her album era, which follows her 2023 Billboard 200-topping album Guts. The forthcoming LP is scheduled for release in June and will contain 13 tracks.

In a recent interview with British Vogue, Rodrigo explained the thematic direction of the new album, stating that she realized her favorite romantic love songs are beautiful because they contain “a tinge of fear or yearning.” She described You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love as being full of “sad love songs.”

Rodrigo reflected on her personal experiences with love, saying, “Falling in love, [I thought] that the second I’m in a really great relationship, I’m gonna start feeling good about myself, and this stuff is going to fall into place. But it just doesn’t work like that.” She added, “I’m definitely a lover girl. Like, I want to be in something committed and so in love. And yeah, it’s hard these days.”

“Drop Dead” was co-written by Rodrigo alongside songwriter Amy Allen and producer Dan Nigro, her longtime collaborator who also produced her previous albums Sour and Guts. The track is released under Geffen Records and has a runtime of 3 minutes and 44 seconds.
