Omar Zahran’s lawyer: My client’s allegation of plagiarism is based on “divination”.
Director Omar Zahran’s lawyer, Mohammad Saad, said his client was accused of stealing the jewelry of director Khaled Youssef’s wife, visual artist Shalimar Sharabtali, “without proper legal basis and based on flimsy allegations.”
“Shalimar accused his client of the theft 6 months after filing the report, based on the word of a woman working as a ‘fortune teller’ who claimed that director Omar Zahran was the culprit,” the lawyer added.
Judicial authorities have decided to refer director Omar Zahran for urgent criminal trial to the Giza court, after Shalimar Sharabtali filed a report alleging theft of her gold jewellery.
The lawyer continued that bringing a charge on the basis of a soothsayer’s statement, and not on clear physical evidence, represented a violation of the principles of justice. He asked: “How can a legal authority send a person to trial on the basis of expectation without concrete evidence? How is the process of arrest and summons conducted on this basis?.

In the previous session, the defense lawyer had demanded that his client be released on any guarantee set by the court, insisting that there was no legal justification for his continued detention pending trial.
