André Onana’s Rocky Start at Besiktas: What It Means for Manchester United and His Future
André Onana’s loan move to Besiktas from Manchester United was intended to be a fresh start, a chance to regain confidence after a series of high-profile errors in the Premier League. However, the Cameroonian goalkeeper’s debut season in Turkey has been anything but smooth. A string of underwhelming performances, culminating in a costly error in the Istanbul derby against Galatasaray, has left Besiktas fans questioning the wisdom of the loan deal and raised concerns about onana’s long-term prospects.
The Galatasaray Debacle and Growing criticism
The turning point appears to have been the recent istanbul derby against Galatasaray. Onana’s misjudgment of a routine cross lead directly to a Galatasaray goal, ultimately contributing to a 2-1 defeat for Besiktas. Social media erupted with criticism, and Turkish sports outlets have been particularly harsh in their assessments. “Onana is a shadow of the goalkeeper United fans expected,” wrote fanatik newspaper, “His confidence appears shattered, and his distribution has been erratic.”
