ONE and Evergreen Enhance Port Operations with Strategic Investments in Asia
Carriers are making investments to enhance port operations and ensure capacity. Ocean Network Express (ONE) and Evergreen recently announced steps to strengthen their presence in Asia.
ONE invested in Indonesia's President”>Jakarta, Indonesia’s New Priok Container Terminal (NPCT1), acquiring a minority stake. Jakarta is a key port in Southeast Asia and serves all major carriers. NPCT1 is ONE’s third-largest port by volume in the region. Built in 2016, it can handle 1.5 million TEU annually and accommodate large containerships due to its deep drafts of 16 meters (52.5 feet) and modern equipment.
Hiroki Tsujii, Global Chief Officer of ONE’s Product & Network Division, stated, “This acquisition strengthens ONE’s presence in the regional supply chain and ensures access to terminal capacity in this important region.” He noted NPCT1 is efficient and environmentally friendly.
This latest investment continues ONE’s strategy. Last year, ONE acquired stakes in terminals on the U.S. West Coast and in Europe.
