The road was closed to traffic to allow the serious crash unit to examine the scene. Police expressed gratitude to motorists for their patience while the inquiries were conducted.
Rollover on Northern Motorway
In a separate incident occurring overnight, five people were injured when a car rolled on the northern motorway. The accident took place near the Wellington Street overbridge in the central city.
St John emergency services deployed four ambulances and two rapid response vehicles to the site. Five patients were assessed by medical personnel at the scene before being transported to Auckland City Hospital.
The conditions of the five injured individuals were reported as follows:
