BNDERALÓ – The San francisco de Asís parish in Bnderaló marked its 100th anniversary on April 19,a century defined by community history, unwavering devotion, and steadfast commitment. Celebrations initially slated for Saturday, april 26, have been postponed following the death of Pope Francis.
Centennial celebration Delayed
The parish community, while saddened by the postponement, remains enthusiastic about rescheduling the tribute too a century of shared faith. Rubén Duarte, vice president of the Parish Commission, expressed his sentiments regarding the delay.
“We had everything meticulously planned,” Duarte said. “The unveiling of commemorative plaques, a photographic exhibition showcasing our history, and a grand dinner show at the retiree center. all of it had to be postponed, with the exception of the Mass led by Bishop ariel Torrado Mosconi, which proceeded as planned. We also offered prayers for Pope Francis.”
Tribute to Father Mario Biscaini
A highlight of the rescheduled celebration will be the dedication of a marker at the parish entrance, named in honor of Father Mario Biscaini, who served the parish for 39 years. Duarte emphasized that this dedication serves as “a tribute to him and to the centennial of our parish.”
Postponed Activities
Among the activities awaiting a new date are an exhibition featuring ancient images and artifacts, and a dinner show anticipated by many. Duarte noted the show is “a moment for people to come together, to talk, to share.” He added that the event was designed to be accessible to all, with an inclusive ticket price ensuring no one would be excluded.
Temple Renovations underway
Maintenance and beautification efforts at the church are also part of the centennial spirit. “Thanks to the municipality’s support, we are completing masonry work and focusing on painting the church,” Duarte said. “It will be stunning.”
Duarte reflected on the timing of the postponement, saying, “Maybe neither Father Mario nor the Pope wanted us to celebrate with the church unfinished.maybe it was a sign.”
Community Support Sustains Parish
The parish’s vitality is a testament to community involvement. ”Without a fixed contribution, each member contributes what they can, when they can,” Duarte explained. “In this way, we keep our church alive.” He also acknowledged the support from neighbors and the municipality, which has pledged to provide heating equipment for both the church and the dining hall where catechism is taught.
“We are very happy, very anxious,” Duarte concluded. “and as soon as we have a new date for the celebrations, you will be the first to know.”
