Netflix has officially announced the third season of its live-action adaptation of One Piece, revealing both the title and the expected release window for the next chapter of the series. The upcoming season, titled One Piece: The Battle of Alabasta, is slated to premiere in 2027.

The new season will fully adapt the Alabasta arc from Eiichiro Oda’s original manga. The narrative picks up after the events of the second season, following Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat crew as they travel to the desert kingdom of Alabasta, the homeland of Princess Vivi.

Plot and Narrative Conflict

The storyline centers on a growing rebellion within Alabasta that threatens to destabilize the kingdom. According to official details, the conflict is being secretly manipulated by Sir Crocodile, one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, who operates through his criminal organization known as Baroque Works.

The Straw Hat crew will find themselves directly involved in the escalating crisis as they attempt to protect Princess Vivi’s kingdom from civil war. Netflix provided an official synopsis for the season:

War is coming for Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat crew in the desert kingdom of Alabasta, Princess Vivi’s homeland.

Co-showrunners Joe Tracz and Ian Stokes have indicated that the Alabasta storyline has been a primary focus for the creative team. The arc is noted for expanding the scope of the world beyond individual adventures and playing a central role in the early development of the crew.

Production and Casting

Production for the third season is currently underway in Cape Town, South Africa. Sources indicate that the production is shaping up to be the crew’s most ambitious outing to date, with plans to wrap filming in August 2026.

Production and Casting

The cast continues to feature Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Taz Skylar as Sanji, and Jacob Romero as Usopp. New casting additions include Charithra Chandran, who will appear as Miss Wednesday.

Season 2 Performance and Franchise Expansion

The announcement of the third season follows the release of One Piece Season 2: Into the Grand Line. The second season debuted at number one on the Global Top 10. In its third week, the season recorded 33.8 million views, though this figure represents a decrease of approximately 33% compared to the first season’s performance during the same timeframe.

Beyond the live-action series, Netflix is expanding the One Piece franchise through several other projects. These developments include:

  • A Lego special featuring characters from the series.
  • A new anime remake of the original story.

The transition to the Alabasta arc marks the adaptation of the 11th arc in the overall One Piece saga, introducing new locations and additional enemies to the live-action continuity.
