Samsung is updating its mobile ecosystem with One UI 8.5, a software version based on Android 16 that introduces a significant evolution in artificial intelligence and user interface design. The update follows a modified Android 16 release cycle, where Google released the base OS in June and Samsung launched One UI 8 in September.
The rollout for One UI 8.5 began with a beta phase for the Galaxy S25 series on December 8, 2025. The official public debut of the software occurred on February 25, 2026, coinciding with the launch of the Galaxy S26 series at the Unpacked event.
Stable Rollout Schedule
Following the S26 launch, Samsung confirmed that stable builds of One UI 8.5 began rolling out in March 2026, with the new S26 flagships receiving the update first. A broader stable rollout for the Galaxy S25, S24, and the Z Fold and Flip 7 series was expected to begin in late Q1 2026.
Recent leaks regarding the Galaxy S25 series suggest a more specific timeline for the stable release. According to reports from TarunVats, Samsung may start the initial stable One UI 8.5 rollout for the S25 series on April 30, 2026.
Galaxy AI 2.0 Features
One UI 8.5 introduces Galaxy AI 2.0, which focuses on deepening AI integration across system tools. A key addition is Smart AI Photo History, which enables non-destructive editing by allowing users to make multiple changes to a photo and revert to any previous step in the process.

The update also transforms Bixby through an integration with Perplexity AI, intended to provide real-time and nuanced answers to complex queries. Communication tools have been expanded with Universal Live Translate, which now supports more than 35 languages and functions within third-party applications such as Zoom and WhatsApp.
Samsung has implemented AI Smart Scheduling, a feature that automatically suggests calendar entries based on content found within user chats.
Liquid Glass Visual Evolution
The user interface has undergone a redesign termed Liquid Glass
. This evolution includes a translucent Quick Panel that utilizes dynamic color shifting to change its appearance.
The system now features interactive 3D icons that react to the device’s gyroscope to create a sense of physical depth. To improve accessibility, Samsung introduced One-Handed Mastery 2.0, which shifts interactive elements to the bottom of the screen, referred to as the Reach Zone
.
Battery and Gaming Enhancements
One UI 8.5 includes several technical optimizations for power management and performance. Samsung has introduced 60W Hyper-Charging, which is designed to optimize power delivery while maintaining low temperatures.
Users now have access to more detailed battery health metrics. The revamped battery information system allows users to track the maximum capacity of their battery and the total cycle count.
For gaming, the update introduces Game Booster Ultra. This tool provides system-level ray tracing and a thermal Performance Lock
to maintain stability during high-demand gaming sessions.
