OnePlus Watch Lite: A Deep Dive into the Affordable fitness Tracker
Table of Contents
OnePlus has announced the OnePlus watch Lite, a more affordable and less smart alternative to the OnePlus Watch 3.
as OnePlus more-or-less gave away in its various teases over the weeks, the OnePlus Watch Lite does not run Wear OS like the brand’s other watches. it rather uses a “lightweight RTOS” or real-time operating system, a custom software layer that makes this more of a health and fitness wearable than a smartwatch.
The OnePlus Watch Lite does not have an app store consequently, but does last a fairly long time between charges. OnePlus rates its battery life at 7-10 days depending on how it’s used, or up to four days with the always-on display mode engaged.
Keen followers of wearables may note the watch looks extremely similar to the Oppo Watch X, a Wear OS watch released in 2024. These two brands share the same parent company.
What is an RTOS and Why Does it Matter?
An RTOS (Real-Time Operating System) is designed for applications that require precise timing and responsiveness. Unlike full-fledged operating systems like Wear OS, RTOS prioritizes efficiency and low power consumption. This is why the OnePlus Watch Lite boasts a significantly longer battery life. However, the trade-off is a limited feature set. You won’t find the ability to install third-party apps or enjoy the rich ecosystem of wear OS.
