OpenAI Expands AI Capabilities with Sky Acquisition
Jakarta, Indonesia – OpenAI announced on Monday, October 27, 2025, that it has acquired Software Applications inc., the startup behind Sky,a natural language interface designed for Mac devices, according to Liputan6.com.
Sky, which has not yet been publicly launched, aims to deeply integrate with macOS, understanding screen context and enabling users to perform actions within applications.
Sky Team to Integrate with OpenAI Products
The AI technology giant stated that the Sky team will promptly join OpenAI and their technology will be integrated into existing OpenAI products,including ChatGPT.This integration is intended to move beyond simple command responses and actively assist users with daily tasks.
Ari Weinstein, co-founder and CEO of Software Applications, explained, “We’ve always wanted computers that are more powerful, easily customizable, and intuitive. With the LLM, we can finally put it all together,” as reported by TechCrunch. He further stated, “that’s why we created Sky, an AI experience hovering over your desktop to help you think and create. We’re thrilled to join forces with OpenAI to bring that vision to hundreds of millions of people.”
Apple’s AI Push and Acquisition Details
this acquisition occurs as Apple is reportedly accelerating its own AI advancement, preparing to release a new version of siri and expand its Apple Intelligence ecosystem.
OpenAI has not disclosed the financial terms of the acquisition of Software Applications Inc., which had previously secured approximately USD 6.5 million in funding from investors.
