GPT-5.1: Two New Models
OpenAI released GPT-5.1, the next generation of the AI model powering ChatGPT, on november 12, 2025. The update includes two versions: GPT-5.1 Prompt and GPT-5.1 Considering.
Key Differences Between Prompt and Considering
According to OpenAI, GPT-5.1 prompt is designed to be warmer, more intelligent, and better at following user instructions. GPT-5.1 Considering is easier to understand, faster for simple tasks, and more persistent when handling complex requests.
Both models aim to provide a more pleasant communication experience, with expanded options for customizing ChatGPT’s tone.
New and Updated Tone Presets
ChatGPT now offers new tone presets including Skilled, Candid, and Quirky, joining existing options like Standard, Nerdy, Cynical, Pleasant (previously Listener), and Efficient (previously Robot). The AI will proactively suggest preference updates during conversations based on requested tones or styles.
Users can also fine-tune responses for conciseness, warmth, readability, and emoji frequency.
Enhanced Model Capabilities
By default, GPT-5.1 Prompt is more engaging and likely to adhere to specified parameters. GPT-5.1 Considering adapts its processing time to the complexity of the question, delivering clearer answers with fewer ambiguous terms. It also exhibits increased warmth and empathy.
Rollout and Access
openai will route questions to the most appropriate model using GPT-5.1 Auto. GPT-5.1 Prompt and Considering are rolling out to users starting November 12, 2025, with priority access given to paid Professional, Plus, Go, and Enterprise subscribers. Free and disconnected users will receive access after them.
Enterprise and Education users will have a seven-day early access period before GPT-5.1 becomes the default model. OpenAI plans a gradual rollout to maintain performance stability.
GPT-5 will remain available in the legacy model dropdown for paid subscribers for the next three months.
