OpenAI introduced a package of feature updates inside ChatGPT, shifting the platform from a conversational chatbot into an interactive team workspace designed to execute operational tasks. The platform rollouts include native file creation and editing tools alongside the automated intelligence agents known as Dots.
ChatGPT Space Centralizes Team Workflows
The company unveiled ChatGPT Space during its annual DevDay 2026 conference to serve as a direct competitor to traditional productivity ecosystems. Space consolidates team members, ChatGPT, automated agents, and shared documents into a single operational hub where participants work from a unified context. For eligible subscribers, Space replaces the platform’s previous Library feature. The interface stores files, pages, presentations, and spreadsheets that users create or upload. Participants can issue persistent instructions to specific pages—such as monitoring a team communication channel, extracting vital developments, and updating files automatically. Users can also monitor email, calendars, and Slack to keep task lists current. Space allows teams to invite collaborators, assign viewing or editing permissions, and work simultaneously on shared content. The service is available to Pro, Business, and Enterprise subscribers via web and desktop applications. Mobile applications currently support discovering, reading, and sharing pages, with native creation and editing scheduled to arrive on smartphones later.
Pages and Collaborative Slides Target Traditional Office Suites
Alongside Space, OpenAI introduced Pages as a rival to standard word processors like Microsoft Word and Google Docs. Pages is an interactive document tool built specifically for joint work between human users and artificial intelligence agents. Users can write, research, generate charts, build visual graphics, and write code while inviting coworkers to edit in real time and leave comments. Users can address ChatGPT, Codex, or individual Dots directly inside a document to request revisions or execute new steps. Pages link directly to external applications like Google Drive and Slack, allowing the platform to pull external data to keep documents current. Automated rules let users select specific sources to check and set update schedules, turning static files into living documents. The company also revealed Collaborative Slides, enabling users to build presentations directly inside ChatGPT through conversational instructions or team templates. Users and digital agents can then edit the slides together concurrently.
Autonomous Dots Agents Perform Proactive Research
The DevDay 2026 announcements included a new generation of autonomous agents named Dots, which execute user-assigned tasks around the clock with self-learning capabilities. Dots feature Proactive Research, allowing agents to analyze context across user files and conversation history to identify missed operational details or relevant information. The agents handle these tasks autonomously and notify users upon completion to maintain background awareness throughout the workday.
