Opera Stars Michael Spiers and Anita Rachvelishvili to Perform in Latvia
Michael Spiers and Mathieu Pordoy: December 16
On December 16, American tenor Michael Spiers, accompanied by French pianist Mathieu Pordoy, will perform a program of German Romantic song at the Latvian National Opera. The performance will feature Richard Wagner’s Wesendonck Lieder, Gustav Mahler’s Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen (Songs of a Wayfarer), Richard Strauss’s Four songs, and Erich Wolfgang Korngold’s song cycle Unvergänglichkeit (Immortality).

Michael Spiers is a highly regarded tenor known for his versatility and extensive repertoire, encompassing over 80 roles in 78 operas.He specializes in bel canto and French grand opera and has performed at leading opera houses worldwide,including the Metropolitan Opera,Paris National Opera,Teatro alla Scala,and the Salzburg and Bayreuth festivals.
Recent highlights include performances in Idomeneo, Norma, and Carmen. Spiers also serves as the Artistic Director of Ozark Lyric Opera, where he mentors young artists. His current season includes engagements at the Opéra Comique de Paris, Opéra Metropole, Elba Philharmonic, and in Valencia, Barcelona, Berlin, Vienna, Dijon, and Lausanne.
Anita Rachvelishvili and Vincenzo Scalera: December 18
On December 18, Georgian mezzo-soprano Anita Rachvelishvili will make her debut at the Latvian National Opera in a solo concert with pianist Vincenzo scalera. The program will include Neapolitan songs by Francesco Paolo Tosti,music by Otar Taktakishvili,songs by Peter Tchaikovsky and Sergei Rachmaninoff,and selections from Manuel de Falla.
