Order of the Sinking Star: Release Date, Platforms, and Gameplay Details

Jonathan Blow, the creator of Braid and The Witness, is releasing a new narrative puzzle adventure titled Order of the Sinking Star in 2026. Developed by Thekla, Inc. and published by Arc Games, the title will launch on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch, according to reporting from The Next Hint.

The game has been in development for nearly 10 years with a team of more than 20 people. To build the project, Thekla developed a custom engine using Jai, an in-house programming language. The title was officially revealed during the 2025 Game Awards.

Director Jonathan Blow stated that Order of the Sinking Star contains more than 1,400 puzzles. He expects standard playtime for the game to range between 250 and 500 hours, according to The Next Hint.

The gameplay begins on a grid-like plane and eventually progresses into 3D scenarios. Players navigate four distinct worlds, each featuring its own set of mechanics, characters, and stories. The experience involves controlling a cast of heroes that includes a queen, wizards, warriors, a priestess, bards, talking boats, and a thief named Tif.

Release Timeline and Platform Compatibility

While a specific calendar date has not been set, the game is scheduled for a 2026 release. An extended trailer for the title was released on July 21, 2026, which garnered over 20,000 views and approximately 1,000 likes within 24 hours, per The Next Hint.

The game will support several hardware configurations and languages. Compatible devices include:
