A copy of “Your Child, His Family, adn Friends” by Frances Bruce Strain, ​originally checked out from the‌ San Antonio Public Library in July 1943, was recently returned.The book was discovered by‌ a man (identified as P.A.A.G.) while going through boxes of his⁤ late father’s belongings.

His grandmother, ‌Maria del‍ Socorro Aldrete Flores (Cortez), had checked out the book‍ in 1943 while working at the US Embassy after transferring from mexico City. The library’s records showed a 28-day checkout period with a ‍fine of three cents per⁤ day.

Adjusted for inflation, the total fine would be about 56 cents today. The sender jokingly apologized for the late fee, noting his grandmother was unable to ​pay it.the library shared​ the story and images‍ of the book’s checkout card on⁣ Facebook.
